The nights are starting to draw in a little too early for this City chick. We seemed to go from an okay summer of after work drinks, and after work shopping, to grey skies and a drop in temperature. Still, I’m known for being a glass half full kinda girl,so I know that when it gets colder it is time to get out the boots, a new coat and go hunting, for it is…
The monogrammed Burberry blanket is everywhere at the moment, but, to be honest, it is quite unlikely I am going to be filling my wardrobes with KC tagged ponchos.
So what do I see as the trends out there? Doing this, I read a lot, but really you can gauge the feeling of the fashionistas throng by looking at the recently pinned on Pinterest.
We have seen the rise of the over-size sweater on fashionistas in print and online since last year and I am thinking this is a natural extension of the boyfriend sweater combined with the amalgamation of the poncho and cape, and then the realisation that with such a large piece of clothing, it would be impossible to wear a coat, so make it even larger.
Movement in such monsters can be a little daunting, regardless of how cosy you feel and look. Cropped and off-the-shoulder knits have adorned the window mannequins and girls on the street, but side splits are everywhere this season, allowing better movement and cooling when going from hot store to hot store via the cold outdoors.
Grey is the colour of winter, or the autumn in the UK too, and goes with everything. Long gone are the days when you would pair grey with black, white or denim. Recently mixing the dull grey tones with a bright orange, or yellow can be seen with a grey pair of trousers and an orange top making it onto my hangers too.
3D materials, patterned knitting and adding an extra dimension to our knitwear and there are some wonderful ways the designers are bringing shape and form to us.
Which, all in all, means that on Pinterest, based on the trends for over-size, chunky, grey and side splits, that this pin from Cathryn Hall is the ultimate knitwear, being a combination of all four trends.
Wrap up warm, my lovelies, and let’s go sweater shopping.
